Sustainable Scribbles: Why YorKAOS chooses to put the Planet First

At YorKAOS, we love a bit of creative chaos—but we don’t want that chaos to affect the planet!

As we get ready for our huge exhibition at SPARK:York this February half-term, we’ve been thinking hard about the materials we use. We want every masterpiece on the walls to not only look amazing but also be kinder to the environment and other children.

Here is how we are making YorKAOS 2026 our “greenest” exhibition yet:

♻️ 1. Recycled Mounting & Workshop Paper

When you see the artwork on the walls at SPARK, you’ll notice they are all mounted on thick high quality paper to make the artwork pop. Our mounting paper is 100% recycled for all entries.

We are also using recycled paper for our A4 drawing paper in our daily workshops with artists like Emily Sutton and Lincoln Lightfoot.

✏️ 2. Pencils with a Purpose

We’ve been careful about the pencils we provide. Instead of just picking the cheapest option, we’ve looked for pencils that are “less bad” for the environment—meaning they use sustainably sourced wood and fewer harsh chemicals.

🖍️ 3. Supplies that Give Back: Color Swell

We are so excited to be using Color Swell art supplies this year. We chose their colored pencils and crayons as They have a mission, donating art supplies to children in need.

By using these supplies at YorKAOS, we are helping in a small way.
